The company was able to preserve the model and it's on display at the Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. The build garnered media attention including a feature on DIY Celebrity Rides in 2009 and another special featured by Hot Rod Television on Speed Channel in 2010. Their latest project — the 1976 Mercury Montego tribute car — was built in four short months and donated to the foundation free of charge, including labor. The street legal tribute car features a Ford Racing 521 CID engine, Keisler 5-speed transmission, and Sherwin-Williams Barrett-Jackson Collector Color Series paint job. As part of the build process, Gateway Classic Mustang stripped the car down and then cut it apart using a Spectrum® 375 X-TREME™ plasma cutter. The build also required sheet metal replacement and a roll cage install.
Carpet and headliner, both in black, are nice and tidy. Drivetrain The correct 4. 6 liter V8 has electronic fuel injection, and has an aftermarket tuner to bump up the horsepower considerably. A Tremec 5-speed manual transmission throws power rearward to a Ford 8. 8-inch 3. 73 geared rear. Undercarriage All strong and sturdy frame and rockers, with plenty of ground effects panels coverings to produce a free air flow undercarriage. Power disc brakes are on the front and rear. The suspension includes independent coil springs up front, and 4 link with coil springs in the back. A Ford racing exhaust is attached and appears virtually new. Drive-Ability Plenty of power, smooth shifting, and a nice ride sum it up. It can be lightning quick, or just a comfortable cruiser. Sufficient of room for 4 and the heated leather is a nice touch. Save for the front panel alignment, this car presents nicely, runs well, and has a very clean interior. A good value, and certainly worth the price of admission just for the sound of the throaty exhaust.
