Before anyone misunderstands whats involved in opening a daycare center, they should be aware this is not a get-rich-quick business (few of them are), nor is it an easy home-centered job that can be a relaxing way to pick up extra cash. Opening a daycare center is frequently an enormous undertaking, including the often laborious and exhausting routine that running a daycare center day to day brings to its potential owner/manager. In short, one really had better love children, and love working with them, because a huge amount of endurance and patience will be needed to run such a center successfully. Running a daycare center has been a deceptive idea for many mothers, because virtually every successful manager of a daycare has confirmed that caring for another's child is a far cry, and a completely different job, from caring for ones own. There must be unconditional love and acceptance of ANY child to come into the venue, and that takes patience (and practicing patience). Once the manager of a day care has decided to make that commitment, there are a number of steps to follow to open his/her dream daycare.

Taking care of children, whether in your home or in a separate facility, is a significant undertaking. That's why most states and municipalities have strict licensing laws and regulations for daycare providers. If you are interested in opening a child care business, connect with child care agencies in your state to determine what you need to do before publicly offering your services. In-Home or Center-Based Daycare Before you begin your business plan, identify the kind of daycare you want to open: In-home or a freestanding center. In-home daycare is a service you provide in your own home, whereas a freestanding daycare center operates in a separate, dedicated space. As you might expect, each option has benefits and drawbacks: In-home daycare: When you care for children in your home, you do not need to purchase or rent a facility. This reduces your start-up and operating costs. On the other hand, you'll be working and living in the same place as your daycare – which can be stressful. In addition, you will be limited as to the number of children you can care for in your home.

You do need a home to run the business out of (It would be hard to get clients if you only have a small apartment) and if you rent, you would have to check with your landlord to mack sure it's fine with them. There is licensing needed but it usually takes less than a year to finish all the courses. Then, of course, there's all the advertising, contracts with parents, school transportation (if you want to provide that), food and activities (a lot of daycares do preschool) and whatnot. For the short time it takes to get your license and the amount of money you make, it's very good. One draw back is having to pay for your own medical. ahahahaaahaaaaaaaaa Well if Michael Jackson opened a day care facility he wouldn't be working in it probably. He hires people to take care of his own children. He knows nothing about raising children, so he would have to hire people. I still would not let my children go to it. The name would be something like Neverland's Wonderland, or ET's home. something to do with how he never had a childhood.

Typically, the director of a daycare center must have two years experience in early child-care education, a degree in the field or full teacher certification.

Get a separate business bank account for your daycare, and invest in a spreadsheet software program that will help you manage your expenses and revenue. If you are running a home daycare business, pay particular attention to the deductions for which you are eligible. IRS rules treat your "home office" space differently from the offices of most home business owners. Although most home business owners must show that their workspace is used exclusively for business purposes, home daycare providers only need to show that their home is regularly used for child care services, in order for them to claim deductions. You may benefit from hiring an experienced tax professional to handle your tax returns each year.

Daycares usually have at least one toilet and sink for every 15 children. Separate toilets are required for staff. You may also have to obtain a lead test inspection report. However, everything really boils down to what your state requires. Child-Staff Ratios Overcrowded daycare classrooms are considered unsafe and hamper the education process. Most states require that a minimum number of daycare staff be present in the classroom for a specified number of children. Child-to-staff ratios change based on the age of the children. Zoning Regulations Check with your local government to find out if the type of child-care services you are providing is allowed in the area in which you plan on locating. There may be restrictions, so make sure you check. Education Background The minimal credentials needed to work in a daycare center may vary. Usually only a high school diploma or GED is required. However, added child-care experience is a bonus daycare facilities look for. Some may require child-care teachers to have an associate degree in early childhood education or a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) license.

If you do tell me as much info as possible please.. Is it hard to get one started and open? Doesn't the state help you (loan wise) on getting started? Does the state pay for the utility bills or does it come out of the daycares expense? Do you think this would be a good money making job? let me know all the info you have please! Thank you!! Update: What about being open at night time too? Would a daycare do good being open 24/7 (or a certain time at night maybe until 11)? I'm not sure if the state will give a loan to get started. The utility bills comes out of the daycare profits and most people I know don't get into daycare for the money. I do know you can get funding for food, but from my home daycare in Denver, it's not worth the hassle. Depending on where you live, the 24/7 hours may be good. When I was a shift worker in the military, I definitely needed 24/7. So do nursers, doctors, firefighters, police officers, etc. I can only answer what I know. In wa state you do not get a loan to get started and you need to completely child proof (to your states standards) the entire area that the children will be in.
