I've worked in the public school system for two years prior to working for Gleamns. I learned right away that this program was terribly outdated, 90% of the people working there were complacent and didn't have any motivation nor drive to do anything else. I made a little over nine dollars an hour with an A. A. degree and a B. degree. I was told I couldn't be a classroom teacher because my degrees weren't in Early Childhood Education. After some time, I learned that there were several teachers within the same center acting as classroom teachers with only high school diplomas or degrees in majors other than Early Childhood Education. When I inquired about this, I was told my degrees didn't meet the criteria. (Really, degrees in secondary education don't meet the criteria but a high school diploma does 🤔)? This not only baffled me, but discouraged me from trying to advance. I had more education than the classroom teacher but I was the TA. After I received my M. Ed, I was still told I couldn't be a classroom teacher but this time I wasn't given an explanation.
